The MORE Act: A Closer Look at the Proposed Legislation

As the House of Representatives prepares to vote on a bill to federally legalize marijuana, a number of amendments have been filed to the legislation.

The MORE Act, sponsored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), would remove marijuana from the list of federally controlled substances, promote equity in the industry and impose a federal tax on marijuana products to fund various initiatives.

A number of amendments seeking to change various aspects of the bill were filed ahead of Wednesday’s committee vote. These amendments include:

– A provision that would require convicted drug traffickers to serve at least five years in prison before being eligible for release;
– An amendment that would prohibit people with prior drug convictions from participating in the marijuana
